GCM Takes Advantage of a Rain Day

The Golf Maintenance Crew took advantage of the rainy morning and did a deep cleaning of the shop and equipment bay area. The crew worked in the bay and mechanic shop cleaning the walls, sweeping the floors, dusting and cleaning the equipment. Maintaining a clean and organized shop will helps us produce a better product on the golf course.

After the equipment has been removed, the floors are swept and mopped.

Goose Damage on #9 Green

Last Monday Canada Geese that reside on Lake Norman caused damage to #9 green. The geese were averted from damaging other greens after our staff found the damage on #9.

The Canada goose population in our area is becoming a concern. Damage caused by "resident" geese to public property-- lake shore property and the golf course is becoming more common. The GCM department is formulating an action plan plan to discourage the geese from residing on or near the golf course.

Below are pictures of the damage that the geese caused on the putting greens.

GCM Crew Cleans Up After Winter Storm

For the first time in a long time The Peninsula Club was inundated with 5 inches of ice and snow. The winter storm lasted from February 12-14, closing the club and the entire town of Cornelius.

The Golf Course Maintenance crew spent most of the day digging the shop, clubhouse and tennis facility out from the ice and snow.  The crew did a fantastic job getting the clubhouse area cleaned and ready for dinner by Friday afternoon.

Ultradwarf Winter Covering Update

We will be covering greens Monday evening and leaving them on until Friday morning. The greens will also be covered  Friday evening. This is due to the severe drop in temperature and winter weather we will be experiencing during the middle part of the week.

We will remove the covers after the frost has lifted on Friday and Saturday mornings. The driving range will be open all days except Wednesday.

Covering greens is a common practice done on ultradwarf bermudagrass putting greens during the winter months. This process helps our greens hold heat in the soil profile, prevent plant desiccation and protect turfgrass plants against extreme cold temperatures and wind.

Please call the Golf Course Maintenance Department or Pro Shop with any questions or concerns.
